Edinburgh ‘Mini’ Riding of the Marches

We are SO excited to announce that we will be holding the first Edinburgh ‘Mini’ Riding of the Marches on Tuesday 8th September 2026!
The event will be held at The Drum Estate, with kind permission of the More-Nisbet family.
This event is a chance for younger riders to ride their own Mini Marches through the beautiful Drum Estate, led by the Edinburgh Captain and Lass on horseback!
The route will take in the historic Old Mercat Cross and the ancient Borestone that once marked the boundary of Edinburgh’s marches.
There will be a prize for Best Turned Out and a stop halfway for a small ceremony and we will have a photographer present at the event.
The ride will start at 6pm and take roughly 90 minutes, with riders mounted for 5.30pm. The ride will be at a walking pace only – no trotting or cantering permitted.
Parking for equine transport only will be at The Drum Estate Caravan Park, accessed via the East Gate, 642 Old Dalkeith Road EH16 4SL. Trailers and lorries will be able to arrive from 4.30pm.
We warmly welcome families and spectators for those wishing to follow the ride on foot – parking will be at the Sheriffhall Park & Ride and entry to the estate will only be permitted on foot. Pedestrians will be directed by our Marshalling team on the day.
Dresscode: Smart riding attire (legal standard riding hat and boots with a small heel required – no trainers permitted)
PLEASE NOTE:
– This event is FREE to enter and every rider must be registered via our website using the form below.
– ALL riders must be accompanied by a responsible adult on foot. Lead reins are permitted. Only 1 adult permitted per pony/horse
– There will be no catering available
– There will be no toilet facilities available
– Lead reins are permitted and each pony/horse must be accompanied at all times by an adult on foot
– Stallions are not permitted at this event
– No dogs are permitted at this event and cannot be left in vehicles
